Midnight Drive

I’ve always wanted to do a KLON Centaur clone (a Klone?) since for many people it seems to be the holy-grail type of pedal. I did want to fit inside a standard 125B enclosure instead of the weird larger size the normal one comes in.

A lot of people copy the original colors of either a gold or silver enclosure, but I’ve never been a fan of those. Instead I opted for a black ‘sand texture’ with some gold accented knobs which I figured would still give a nice classy look.

I ended up NOT using the ‘mythical’ 1N34A diodes, since honestly the mythology is that the original 1N34A’s were nothing like the ones you can still find today. Instead I ended up with 2 common replacements that seem to be popular: D9E and BAT41 diodes (as well as a red LED option).

Just like with the Nacoco Drive Plus pedal I really liked the footswitch with the red/blue LED lights built in, so applied the same here where depending on which clipping diodes you use it lights up differently.

Of course it did take me trying out a dozen or so varieties of knobs before settings on my final selection. I must say playing through it, I can see why a lot of people love this pedal.
